 SPIREITES FAIL IN BID FOR STRIKER      

                                        

 Stevenage Borough have rejected a bid  

 from Second Division Chesterfield for  

 leading scorer Carl Alford.            

                                        

 The move is the latest in a long line  

 of offers for Alford as the club       

 becomes resigned to losing the striker 

 before the end of the current season.  

                                        

 Manager Richard Hill said: "Carl's the 

 best player in the Conference. We won't

 stand in his way if a league club meets

 our valuation of him."
