 France's Joel Chenal landed his first  

 World Cup win to end Hermann Maier's   

 hopes of a giant slalom hat-trick.     

                                        

 Chenal, whose best previous finishes   

 came last year when he was fifth in a  

 giant slalom twice, was fastest in the 

 second leg to move from seventh place  

 to claim victory.                      

                                        

 Maier, who had won the first two giants

 of the season, had to settle for second

 with Austrian Rainer Salzgeber third.
