■ Education Secretary David Blunkett
is launching a spelling blitz.
Words which youngsters will be expected
to know by the age of 10 are, funnily
enough, said to include "illiterate".
Which could prove quite a challinj four
theri teechurs.
By 11, they'll apparently be expected
to know "claustrophobia" and
"xenophobia". Presumably this is in
case they ever get stuck in a lift with
a bunch of French farmers.
