 TUESDAY: The Government accused the    

 French of trying to "drive a wedge"    

 into UK policy on the beef ban.        

                                        

 Scottish Minister Brian Wilson's attack

 came after French PM Lionel Jospin     

 claimed ministers rejected his offer to

 exempt some grass-fed Scottish beef.   

                                        

 Mr Wilson said there was "no substance"

 to the claim in respect of formal talks

 between the UK and French governments  

 and the European Commission.
