 A 96-year-old who has eaten the same   

 lunch at the same diner almost every   

 day for 60 years turned down an offer  

 of free meals for the rest of his life.

                                        

 "As long as I'm able, I'd just as soon 

 keep paying for myself," said the      

 Minneapolis lawyer, Wendell Erickson.  

                                        

 The restaurant did persuade him to     

 accept a leather chair, with a plaque: 

 Wendell Erickson, a man of great taste.
