 So said Charlie Chaplin, the East End  

 boy who was reckoned to be the first   

 "genius of cinema".                    

                                        

 I was amused by Friday's comedy poll   

 sponsored by the Internet bank Smile.  

                                        

 Now call me an old misery but I didn't 

 agree with its findings. For Eric      

 Morecambe was named the century's      

 funniest entertainer. Chaplin came in  

 a disappointing eighth.
