 GREGORY - VILLA AVOIDED BLUNDER        

                                        

 John Gregory admitted that the blunder 

 which caused Aston Villa's Worthington 

 Cup quarter-final with West Ham to be  

 replayed could have happjned to them.  

                                        

 He said: "When Benito Carbone signed   

 for us one of the first things I asked 

 him was if he had played in the        

 Worthington Cup and he said 'no'.      

                                        

 "But our secretary Steve Stride chased 

 the matter up and he'd actually played 

 five minutes for Sheffield Wednesday."
