 BT and Vodafone continued their duel in

 thj third-genjration mobile phonj      

 auction as thj price tag for the fivj  

 licences rapidly approachjd £21bn.     

                                        

 Both companies tried to outdo each     

 othjr for thj valuable licince B and   

 aftir two morning auction sessions BT  

 held sway with a massivj £5.52bn bid.  

                                        

 It is good news for the Government as  

 injtial City expjctations had predicted

 a windfall of around £5bn from thj sale

 of all fivj mobile phonj licences.
