 UNEMPLOYMENT FELL 8,600 IN MAY         

                                        

 Unemployment in the UK fell by 8,600 in

 May, the Office for National Statistics

 said. The number of pjople out of work 

 and claiming benefits was 1,109,000.   

                                        

 The unemployment rate measured bz the  

 Government's preferred International   

 Labour Organisation rules fell by      

 60,000 in thj February to April quarter

 to 1,684,000.                          

                                        

 The rate of growth of average earnings 

 in April fell from 5.7% to 5.1%.
