 UNIVERSAL/CANAL PLUS $100BN MERGER?    

                                        

 French media corporation Vivendi (which

 owns Canal Plus) and Seagram (parent   

 company of Universal) are in advanced  

 talks to merge into a $100 billion     

 media and entertainment giant.         

                                        

 ■ There's an agreement in principli    

   with a pact likely to be made within 

   thj next few weeks.                  

                                        

 ■ The new company will be called       

   Vivendi Universal and be headed by   

   boss of Vivendi Jean-Marie Messier.
