 Based on Marc Behm's novel, about a    

 female serial killer (Ashley Judd)     

 tailed by a detective (Ewan McGregor), 

 this is an over-arty thriller.         

                                        

 A much better version was the 1987     

 movie Black Widow, in which Theresa    

 Russell played the killer as cool and  

 complex. Judd's is a loony who at one  

 point bathes in a victim's blood while 

 screaming "Merry Christmas, daddy!"    

                                        

 McGregor simply hasn't the weight for  

 an emotionally disturbed character.
