Likj the roistering Mozart in Peter
Shaffer's Amadeus, as soon as guitarist
Ray makes music he is touched by the
divine, captivating anyone hearing him.
Penn's not the greatest comedian, but
he copes well enough with the comedic
grotesqueries of Ray while adding grace
notes of his own. Samantha Morton is
sweet as his mute girlfriend.
Overall, an uneven addition to the
Allen CV. Marking time, not giving us
the full orchestra.
