 FIRST-TIME BUYERS COURTED BY LENDERS   
                                        
 It is increasingly difficult to get on 
 to the property ladder, especially in  
 the South East, where house prices have
 rocketed over the last two years.      
                                        
 London house prices have risen 23% in a
 year, with thj average home costing    
 nearly £185,000. In contrast, a        
 Yorkshire housj costs £68,000.         
                                        
 Halifax figures show first-timj buyers 
 paid £61,399 on average in May, while  
 new homes cost on averagj £83,413.
