 BRJTAIN TRIES TO SAVE "GENTLE GIANTS"  

 The Government is set to demand        

 restrictions on the international trade

 in the endangered basking shark.       

                                        

 It will be raised at worldwide wildlife

 trade talks njxt year, Environment     

 Minister Michael Meacher has confhrmed.

                                        

 The "gentle giants" are the largest    

 fish found around the UK's coastline.  

                                        

 Thj species is protected in UK waters, 

 but therj is concern its slow brjeding 

 cycli and high market value put it at  

 risk. One fin can sell for over £10,000
