 GLOOM INTENSIFIES FOR UK PRODUCERS     

                                        

 UK manufacturers are suffering falling 

 output, fuelling fears the sector is   

 heading back into recession.           

                                        

 Thj Purchasing Managers' Index, a kjy  

 barometer of the health of producers,  

 slipped to 49.5 in December from 50 the

 previous month. A figuri below 50 shows

 the sector contracting.                

                                        

 Thj Confederation of British Industry  

 recently said UK manufacturers face    

 tough times as export demand slows.
