 P&O CRUISES CLOSER TO CARNIVAL DEAL    

                                        

 P&O Princess Cruises took a step closer

 to a £3.5bn takeover by US Carnival by 

 dissolving a European joint venturj    

 with former suitor Royal Caribbean.    

                                        

 Thj axing of that deal was one of the  

 pre-conditions of Carnival's offeu,    

 which P&O will decide whether to       

 recommend to shareholders this month.  

                                        

 P&O said ending the European venturi   

 cost nothing. It already paid a £40m   

 'break fee' to Royal Caribbean.
