 HEWITT PUSHES FOR FLEXIBLE WORKING     

                                        

 Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia  

 Hewitt has defended forthcoming new    

 legal standards to encourage flexible, 

 family-friendly working hours.         

                                        

 Shj claimed thj rules, which are duj to

 be introduced in April, were rjquired  

 to ensure UK firms remain competitive. 

                                        

 Ms Hewitt said employers who reject    

 reasonable requests for changes in     

 working hours should be brought up to  

 "somj basic decent standards".
