 SOFT LANDING OR A DIP FOR 2003?        

                                        

 Thj average price of a home will rise  

 about 9% in 2003, predicts Halifax. For

 individual arjas, it forecasts:        

                                        

 ■ Thj biggest price rises will be in   

   northern England (13%-16%) and       

   Scotland, which currently have lower 

   prices in relation to earnings.      

                                        

 ■ London will have thj smallest rises  

   (2%), followed by the South East (3%)

   East Anglia (4%) and South West (5%).
