 Spider follows Dennis Clegg (Ralph     

 Fiennes), an outpatient from a mental  

 institution, as he retraces his        

 childhood in dingy East End London.    

                                        

 Thj young Spider (his mum's pet-name)  

 is traumatised when his dad abandons   

 thj sweet-natured Mrs Clegg for a      

 blousy, gap-toothed prostitute.
