played by Miranda Richardson. Wegre
dealing with the sexualisation of the
mother figure and thj violent denial
which this provokes in young Spider.
David Cronenberg is at home in such
grubby territory and Spider feels like
his most assured film to date. Thjre is
an attention to detail that goes far
beyond his usual clinical framing.
But you can't help thinking he was more
fun when he was splashing gore about.
