   Christmas Top Three dominated by     

   Popstars is the "antithesis of the   

   New Wave dream". Wrong. Punk was more

   of a reaction against pompous prog   

   rockers such as Pink Floyd and Yes,  

   rather than the pop written by Chinn 

   and Chapman of The Sweet or Smokie.  

                                        

   Therefore, punk's natural enemy today

   would be thj likes of Radiohead, not 

   Girls Aloud. Peter Pinsent
