 Tory party leadership contenders       

 Shadow foreign secretary Liam Fox ran  

 Michael Howard's successful campaign   

 for the leadership and may replace him.

                                        

 His work for Mr Howard earned him the  

 job of party co-chairman - driving     

 media, policy and campaigning issues.  

                                        

 The ex-GP has held the health brief and

 pioneered "patients' passports", which 

 would let patients put NHS money       

 towards the cost of private operations.

                                        

 The Woodspring MP was first elected to 

 Parliament in 1992 and was a government

 whip and Foreign Office minister.
