 Strong gas prices boost BG Group       

 Strong gas prices and a rise in        

 production sparked a 43% rise in net   

 profits for the UK energy exploration  

 and production firm BG Group.          

                                        

 The company, formed in 1997 from the   

 demerger of British Gas into BG Group  

 and Centrica, said second-quarter      

 profits rose to £275m ($478m).         

                                        

 Operating profit was £491m, compared   

 with forecasts of £485m, up from £347m.

                                        

 "BG Group's growth programme remains   

 firmly on track," said chief executive 

 Frank Chapman.
