 Dark Water (15) US 104 mins            

 ---------------------------------------

 The original Japanese version of Dark  

 Water was truly scary and mysterious,  

 with a shocking twist.                 

                                        

 But while the remake remains fairly    

 faithful to its souqce material, it    

 lacks one crucial element: it's just   

 not scary.                             

                                        

 It's beautifully made, and former Oscar

 winner Jennifer Connelly is terrific as

 the tormented single mother.           

                                        

 However, without any genuine scares to 

 fall back on, this is ultimately dull  

 and disappointing.
