 The BBC Global 30 index is a tool to   

 take the pulse of the global economy,  

 looking at the top firms in Europe,    

 Asia and the Americas.                 

                                        

 In each region, firms are sorted in 10 

 industry sectors. Then from each sector

 in each region we take the largest firm

 by stockmarket value.                  

                                        

 This wide range of industries and broad

 regional spread allows us to gauge     

 where the world economy is heading.    

                                        

 To get a longterm view, the BBC Global 

 30 constituents are revised once a year
