 London Market Report                   

 (Close): The London market hung on to  

 early gains to end trading ahead,      

 helped by some upbeat corporate news.  

                                        

 The FTSE 100 closed 7.4 points higher  

 at 5,263.6 as investors were cheered by

 strong trading figures from the        

 insurance and defence sector.          

                                        

 Prudential gained 2.2% after it posted 

 a better-than-expected 31% rise in     

 half-year profits, boosting shares of  

 rival insurer Aviva in the process.    

                                        

 Supermarket chain Morrisons traded flat

 despite giving a positive sales update.
