Phil Weston (Ferrell) is a good man but
a disappointment to his sports-mad
father Buck (Duvall).
Phil was hopeless, but wants his own
son, Sam, to enjoy sports.
Then Buck, coach of the area's best
football team, trades Sam to another
side with no coach or talent.
Phil is compelled to take over, and in
doing so discovers he has a competitive
streak as wide as his father's.
