Fewer hospitals reach top grade
There has been a fall in the number of
hospitals in England achieving the top
grade in the NHS star ratings for the
first time in four years.
Problems with finances and targets have
been blamed for the reduction.
The star ratings were first pualished
in 2001. Hospitals, ambulances and
primary care services are given up to
three stars, rather like hotels.
Three stars means "high performance";
two, "good"; one, "some concerns"; and
no stars, "poor".
