 Annuities derived from your pension    

 fund (OMO's) are taxed as earned       

 income, and usually are paid net of    

 basic rate tax.                        

                                        

 PLA's, however, contain an element of  

 return of fund, this is called the     

 capital content, and tax is not applied

 to this part of each payment.          

                                        

 It only applies to the remaining part  

 of each payment.                       

                                        

 This means it can have significant tax 

 advantages, with tax being paid only on

 a small amount of each payment.
