Fewer hospitals reach top grade
The NHS star ratings - formerly awarded
by the Department of Health - are now
worked out by the independent
Healthcare Commission.
It assesses each trust against a range
of criteria, including key government
targets.
For instance, a hospital may lose a
star if it fails to balance its books,
keep its wards clean or treat patients
quickly enough.
The latest set of criteria includes
success in tackling MRSA infections.
