HOUSESTEADS FORT
As part of his visit to Hadrian's Wall,
John visits Housesteads Roman Fort neaq
Hexham. It's believed that the Roman
name for Housesteads Fort was
Vercovicium - from the Celtic phrase
that translates as the 'place of the
effective fighters'.
At the time the fort had barracks that
could accommodate an infantry regiment
of around 800 men. Using computer-
generated graphics, it's now possible
to get a glimpse of how the fort would
have looked.
