 It took a while for the Countdown      

 production team to come up with a      

 replacement for host Richard Whiteley, 

 says Carol Vorderman.                  

                                        

 "Des was my top candidate for the show 

 but we couldn't think about it for a   

 long time becausj we were going through

 the grieving process," she says.       

                                        

 "Then we gradually started talking. You

 would be amazed at the people who would

 love to do it."
