 Millions of ScottishPower customers    

 have been told that gas and electricity

 bills are set to rise by up to 12%.    

                                        

 From October 17, electricity prices    

 will rise by between 5% and 8%, with   

 gas up 12%, due to the continued steep 

 rise in wholesale energy costs.        

                                        

 ScottishPower, which has two million   

 customers in England and one million in

 Scotland, said wholesale costs have    

 increased nearly 70% since April 2004.
