 Big-serving Australian Mark            

 Philippoussis defeated Tomas Behrend to

 progress to the second round in Metz.  

                                        

 The 'Scud' opened up with an impressive

 6-1 victory in the first set before the

 German Behrend fought back, negating   

 his opponent's serve and taking the    

 second 6-3 to set up a decider.        

                                        

 But Philippoussis held his nerve to    

 claim the third and final set 6-3 and  

 make his progress to the next round.
