 The EU froze entry talks with Croatia, 

 which had been dur to start in March,  

 over its failure to assist the UN war  

 crimes tribunal in The Hague.          

                                        

 But tribunal officials now say Zagreb  

 is helping in the case against former  

 Croat general Ante Gotovina over       

 wartime atrocities against Serbs.      

                                        

 Croatian officials now say they hope   

 the new talks will mean the country can

 become a member of the EU in 2009.
