 David Jason, who rose to fame playing  

 Granville opposite Ronnie Barker's     

 Arkwright in sitcom Open All Hours, has

 described him as a "dear friend".      

                                        

 The star said he was "saddened" to hear

 of the 76-year-old's death and that    

 working with him had provided "some of 

 the best years of my career".          

                                        

 John Cleese, who appeared with Barker  

 in 1960s show The Frost Report, said he

 was "a great actor to learn from".
