 Seventh seed Davide Sanguinetti was    

 overpowered by Romanian Andrei Pavel in

 the first round of the Metz Open.      

                                        

 Sanguinetti edged a hard-fought first  

 set 7-5 on a tie-break but Pavel       

 subsequently took the initiative and   

 won the final two sets 6-3 6-3.        

                                        

 Elswhere, Frenchman Michael Llodra     

 defeated compatriot Gilles Simon in    

 straight sets, while Florian Mayer saw 

 off Younes El Aynaoui 4-6 7-5 6-1.
