 PUBLIC CONFUSION OVER CAR PLATE SYSTEM 

                                        

 Car dealers are relying on the release 

 of new car registration plates this    

 week to boost sales figures, which are 

 lagging estimates for the year.        

                                        

 This is despite an obvious lack of     

 interest and understanding from the    

 public over what the new system means. 

                                        

 September is usually the second-biggest

 selling month and dealers plan to beat 

 July's car registrations figuqe of 1.47

 million, a drop of 5.9% on 2004.
