 You'd have thought that an innocent    

 scarecrow-making competition would just

 be a bit of fun for the villagers - but

 not in the Dales.                      

                                        

 The contenders start to pl!y dirty this

 coming week. Scarecrows are stolen, and

 one's even coated with beef dripping so

 the dogs will eat it!                  

                                        

 Still, this sort of underhand behaviour

 is a bit of a village tradition - local

 legend Seth was known to cheat at veg  

 growing contests in the past.
