 FIRST TIMERS FEEL LITTLE PRICE JOY     

                                        

 House price affordability continues to 

 be a problem for first-time buyers,    

 despite prices rising at the slowest   

 rate in nearly a decade.               

                                        

 It is also despite wage inflation being

 nearly twice that of house prices.     

                                        

 Nationwide's August house price index  

 puts annual house price inflation at   

 2.3%, the lowest since May 1996. It    

 believes this gap between prices and   

 wages will take time to narrow further.
