South African financial group Old
Mutual has formally launched its £3.3bn
bid for Swedish insurer Skandia, based
on an offer of Kroner 43.60 per share
and a mixture of cash and shares.
The UK construction sector was robust
in August, with the CIPS PMI index
climbing to 57.4 - its highest level in
16 months and the 45th month of growth
in succession. The rise was due largely
to commercial activity, with housing
slower while civil engineering fell.
