 Nationwide's August house price survey 

 reveals:                               

                                        

 ■ House prices fell by 0.2% last month;

                                        

 ■ The annual rate of growth is still   

   positive, but has slowed to 2.3%,    

   compared to 18.9% at the same time   

   last year;                           

                                        

 ■ The average UK house price is now    

   £157,310 compared to £158,348 in July

   and £153,743 this time last year.
