 BOC BID TALK UNDERPINS FTSE 100        

                                        

 Pubs group Wetherspoon and bingo and   

 leisure operator Rank were among the   

 FTSE 250's fallers after both unveiled 

 lower first-half profits.              

                                        

 Bunzl, which reported on Tuesday,      

 gained ground after it named Michael   

 Roney as its new chief executive.      

                                        

 Among smaller stocks, a positive       

 trading update pushed Latchways higher 

 and Empire Online added to recent gains

 as it confirmed a bid approach.
