 BBC STAFF BLOW £11.8M ON TAXIS         

                                        

 Cabbies continue to do a roaring trade 

 at the Beeb, in spite of cutbacks by   

 director-general Mark Thompson.        

                                        

 Spending on taxis increased last year  

 by 3.5% to £11.8m.                     

                                        

 The BBC says the increase is down to   

 more staff in Northern Ireland and     

 Scotland using a central booking system

 rather than claiming back fares on     

 expenses. But the bill was down on the 

 £13.1m spent in 2000.
