 ARE HYBRID 'GREEN' CARS WORTH HAVING?  

                                        

 The Insight is powered by a hybrid     

 petrol-electric system called          

 Integrated Motor Assist (IMA).         

                                        

 An ultra-efficient 995cc three-cylinder

 petrol engine is linked to a thin      

 electric motor. The 20kg of batteries  

 are charged when the brakes are applied

 so there is no fiddling with cables.   

                                        

 When accelerating, the electric motor  

 kicks in to provide the same kind of   

 push as you would get in a 1500cc car.
