 PUBLIC CONFUSION OVER CAR PLATE SYSTEM 

                                        

 Three quarters of the public have no   

 idea how the UK's registration plate   

 system works, says a Post Office poll. 

                                        

 A quarter of us think the two letters  

 at the beginning of a plate refer to   

 where a driver lives (not where the car

 is registered). Some even reckon they  

 are the driver's initials.             

                                        

 But despite the public's confusion,    

 dealers are relying on the new plate   

 release to boost sales of new vehicles.
