 I WAS A PERRIER COMEDY AWARD JUDGE     

                                        

 At midnight on Saturday the winners    

 were announced of Edinburgh's most     

 hotly anticipated prizes, the Perrier  

 Comedy Awards.                         

                                        

 Piano-playing Australian Tim Minchin   

 took the Best Newcomer prize, but the  

 main award also went to a newcomer,    

 Laura Solon, only the second woman     

 winner in the Perrier's 25 years.      

                                        

 They will go on to greater things as a 

 result. But how are the awards decided?

 Well, here's a judge's account.
