Rex Bloomstein believes some aspects of
criminal justice have deteriorated in
the 30 years he's been documenting it.
"The politics of imprisonment have got
worse," he says. "Politicians want to
build more prisons rather than make the
alternatives to prison more attractive.
"We've become more vengeful and less
understanding. There is a place for
prisons, but with less people in them."
