 I WAS A PERRIER COMEDY AWARD JUDGE     

                                        

 Debate was most heated when choosing   

 five acts each to be shortlisted for   

 the two awards.                        

                                        

 This was where politicking came in:    

 which newcomers deserved to go on the  

 main list? And, now and again, who     

 might some of us want to keep OFF one  

 or other list?                         

                                        

 That sounds devious, weWre there to    

 judge. If it's simply about the        

 funniest shows, then why not just fit  

 venues with black-box laughter gauges?
