 BOC BID TALK UNDERPINS FTSE 100        

                                        

 Exel attracted a modest degqee of      

 profit taking, after confirmation of a 

 bid approach from Deutsche Post sent   

 the shares soaring on Thursday.        

                                        

 Hotel and leisure stocks also lost some

 ground, with InterContinental, Hilton, 

 Enterprise Inns and Whitbread all a few

 pence lower.                           

                                        

 Pilkington led the FTSE 250 risers as  

 the group continued to attract bid     

 speculation.
